As a reader, sometimes I’m in the mood for a certain genre and sometimes I’m not. Paranormals (vampires, shape-shifters, etc), I have to be in a certain mood for. Romantic suspense–have to be in a certain mood for. Sometimes I need something new and fresh. And sometimes I need something comforting. Something I’ve read before and loved. A standby that will…well…comfort me.
My comfort reads are Julie Garwood historicals. Ahhh. How I love her heroes and heroines. They’re great stories I can fall into that I’ve read over and over and never get tired of.
<–My three favorites
So what is your comfort read?
Julie Garwood is my comfort read, too. I re-read Shadow Music all the time. I love her modern day Buchanans. 🙂
Marika
I LOVE Julie Garwood’s historicals! Have them all on my keeper shelf.
Maw25 – I just can’t get into her contemporaries but her historicals….ahhhhhh. I LOVE Shadow Music!!
I love everything she writes but for me…Noah and Jordan are the best. 🙂 Her historicals are legendary. 🙂
Now that you’ve mentioned Shadow Music, I feel the need to reread it. I’ll have to check out Noah and Jordan’s stories too.
Johanna Lindsey’s historicals… They just make me sigh…
Judith McNaughts historicals! Funny and romantic.
HQ Intrigues. Weird, I know, but true.
I think its funny that for most of us, its historicals we turn to.
I tend to go to a couple of my favorite Nalini Singh Psy Wars books but also Barbara Delinsky’s The Summer I Dared and Lisa Kleypas’s Blue Eyed Stranger.
I generally go for quick easy reads — Harlan Coben, or ones that will totally drag me in like Phillipa Gregory’s historicals. Easy escapism books to take me away from my reality for a while.
Jo Beverley historicals are comfort reads for me. Also Lisa Kleypas. They are like slipping into a big tee shirt and pajama pants. 🙂
