The In Between

I finished writing my book and sent it to my editor. In the meantime I finished reading the book I’d been waiting two years to read (Ken Follett’s Winter of the World–950+ pages). Now I’m in the In Between.

That place where I’m not yet ready to start writing the next book and I’m still involved in the lives of the people in the book I was reading and am not ready to give them up.

I’m not sure what to do with myself in the In Between. I”m a little lost because I always either have a book to read or a book to write and I’m usually torn between the two.

So I’m doing strange things, like dusting, and painting my nails, and cleaning the kitchen.

This In Between thing needs to end soon before my family gets used to a clean house.

What do you do when you find yourself with some spare time?

  1. Well done on getting the new book off — nice one. I know how you feel when you’re not ready to let your characters go in order to think about new ones — I always feel like I’m cheating and my new characters aren’t going to be as full of life as my old ones. What do i do when I find myself with some free time — lol I stare out the window and hold my breath and wonder how long it will last. Then as nothing seems to happen from staring out the window (funny that!) I sigh, and get on with cleaning the house.

  2. Congrats on getting your book off to the editor! I do the exact same things you do when I’m in between..well, except painting my nails. In the past I’ve gone so far as to paint a room or rip things out and do a semi-remodel. But right now I’ve been in a writing and reading frenzy…so my house is in order and my husband isn’t cringing when he looks at the checkbook! lol

  3. Congrats on getting the book off to your editor!! I clean, lol! Then I wander around lost until I start my next project :)

  4. Big congrats on getting the book out the door… LOL on the clean house. I know exactly what you mean because I do the same thing… I clean until a new idea smacks me up along the side of the head and I just have to write it.
