I’ve been following the Hostess news closely. Some are saying there are more important things to discuss and we should get over it, some are sad.
I fall into the sad category because I feel as if Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Ho Ho’s and their famous chocolate cupcakes with the white swirls are an American Icon.
And because the chocolate cupcakes hold a special meaning to me.
Every year since my 18th birthday my husband buys me a Hostess chocolate cupcake, puts a candle in it and sings me happy birthday. It’s a tradition. Now we’re not sure what we’re going to do. It seems wrong to use a different brand’s cupcake and yet we don’t want to do away with the tradition. Even back in the day he was a romantic at heart and I treasure those memories. Now my kids look forward to my cupcake birthday celebration.
What fond memories do you have of Hostess treats? What’s your favorite?
LOL can’t comment as I don’t know what Hostess is, sorry. But I can say that what a lovely hubby you have 🙂
That’s a great tradition, Sharon! Very romantic. 🙂 I haven’t eaten a lot of Hostess products in recent years, but my favorites were probably Twinkies. I remember cutting off the top and licking out the creme center. Yum! 🙂
I kid you not! I just had a dream about Hostess products last night. Like your birthday tradition of a cupcake, my husband has a tradition for his dog trials. The morning of his trial, he always buys a pack of Donettes. Now what will he do? I didn’t grow up eating Hostess foods (my mother, the healthy mom) and I’ve never bought them myself. In fact, my husband bought Twinkies for the first time a couple months ago just so our kids would know what they were. I’m glad he did, now.
I love your tradition Sharon.
My mom didn’t buy things like that when we were growing up…we snacked on carrot sticks and celery with peanut butter…lol, but I remember sampling a twinkie or 2 at friends houses…or Ding Dongs…but it’s been years since I’ve had either and personally I’ve never bought them for my kids either. But I find it so sad what is going on…Hostess has been around forever.
What a great tradition. I’m a TastyKake fan, but I like Hostess cupcakes too. It would be sad to see them go.
Aw, what a sweetie your DH is! I’m a Twinkie girl…but I’ll miss most Wonder Bread – the perfect bread for PB&Js!!
